An improved performance by Merstham ended their poor run of four losses in a
game where they could have taken all three points. In the closing minutes of the game
Westfield were awarded a free kick when the Merstham keeper, Mark Torcaso, was deemed
to have handled the ball outside his area, the resulting kick soared into the net.

Abysmal Refereeing Costs Merstham

One of the worst refereeing displays this season cost Merstham at least a share of the points in tonight's home game against League Leaders Walton Casuals.

Russ Morgan victim of Houriganism
Coming on in the 86th Morgan was amazed to get his marching orders after a case of mistaken identity, which if anyone should have been sent of at all it should have been Bradley Imms.
Imms had brought down a Casuals' striker but it was the unfortunate Morgan that was shown the red card. Hourigan refused to change his decision even after plea from Imms himself and other players from both teams.
Maybe Mr. Hourigan should have gone to Specsavers!

two goals in the second half.

Merstham won 1-0 with a goal scored just on half time by Scott Sullivan with a thirty yard shot (his 1st goal for the team this season). The match was played in very muddy & rainy conditions which effected both sides. Overall Merstham played the slightly better game in a tie, which on paper they should have easily won, that was effected badly by the underfoot conditions and no amount of skill could have stopped the ball continually sticking in the thick muddy patches.
